What we do for ourselves dies with us,
what we do for others is and will remain immortal.
Like all group leaders, we are also committed to the personal development of young people. We want to help broaden their view of the world and take control of their own future. We want to make young people aware of other socially relevant themes that take place outside their own environment. Young people not only get to know a new culture, but they also learn to work in groups and experience personally how enriching it is to give others a better future.
With years of experience in development cooperation, we believe that we are an interesting partner for your youth movement when developing a volunteer project. A volunteer project is a fully-fledged alternative to the traditional (summer) camp and can be combined with excursions and activities on site.
We believe that a group project is an added value for various objectives of your youth movement
Participate in a group project with Volunteer Abroad Alliance is sustainable travelling with a strong commitment. Get to know the culture and everyday reality of the country, not as a tourist, but as a guest.
The local population benefits most from small-scale tourism.
A group project is a unique combination of vacation, group travel and volunteer work. It may not be a tourist holiday, but we do make time for relaxation. With our local team you can explore historical sites, striking areas or take a rest day. Our local team members know the area like the back of their hand and will take you to places off the beaten track.
De members of our alliance who welcome groups have already collaborated with many other groups. We are active in different areasranging from building schools to healthcare and agriculture. Our group programs are always successful because we adapt the program to the individual needs of the group.
There is a difference in group size, period, duration, but also group wishes and your destination. That is why there will always be a new calculation of costs for every interested group. The invoice and costs are drawn up from arrival at the destination until departure.
We plan and provide programs that allow groups to make positive contributions to community projects, encourage intercultural learning, and expand the personal perspective. By approaching each group individually, we can work with you on a group project that suits youannand fits your budget.
You have the flexibility to leave all year round and this with a group size determined by you. We leave it up to you where, when and for how long you carry out a group project. We don't exclude anyone and want to give every organization the opportunity to get to know a different culture.
You come to places where you (partly) live under primitive conditions and a different climate. Your project work is tailored to your physical capabilities. It is not a very arduous journey, but you have to keep in mind that it is not a typical tourist journey. All we ask is that the participants have a good basic fitness and mental health.
These camps usually take place during the traditional school holidays. Because many school holidays in our destinations fall at the same time, this is a great opportunity for your youth movement to provide alternative holidays to the local children, teenagers and other young people. An empty school or school grounds are perfect for organizing activities for children and teenagers (including the local kids).
Your group can organize fun activities with the local kids and teens to connect with peers from another part of the world. Your group can prepare activities to play with the local kids and let them enjoy games they've never heard of.
If there are local youth leaders, you can even prepare these games with them or with the project leaders.
Preparing the activities together with your local peers provides a long-term win-win situation as the local youth leaders learn other activities that they can then offer to other members of their community.
Plenty of flexibility is provided, meaning you also have the option of organizing your traditional activities for your own group. These can be traditional youth activities, trekking, but it is also possible to undertake cultural excursions in the area. This way, your group will not only be exposed to the problems that the locals face on a daily basis, but you will also have the opportunity for some sightseeing.
Your group collects money for your own project and will carry it out on site. You determine your budget in advance and based on this amount, we look together with the local population where there is a need at that moment, because they know this better than we do. We do not set a minimum on the amount to be collected.
The program of a project trip is therefore much more concrete & flexible than an immersion trip because you provide the funds yourself to carry out your own project.
The project is not necessarily “building”, for example a group of nurses can work in a first aid post.
The program of an immersion trip is less flexible than that of a project trip. During an immersion trip you visit our already completed projects and you may participate in the ongoing projects of our local team.
The disadvantage of an immersion trip is that you have no certainty in advance about the work to be carried out and the duration of this work (if there is any). The exact planning comes closer as the departure approaches, but you have to be flexible as a group on site because everything can change.
If you want more flexibility, definitely consider a project trip.
We would be happy to have a chat to see which group project best suits your group. Send an email to our coordinator Ward - ward@volunteerabroadalliance.org
Despite the fact that we consist of great projects, it is no longer feasible for our volunteers who carried this alliance.
Soon you will find a list of the participating organizations so that you can contact them directly.
